Have you ever heard of AZULIK? You may have seen it on Instagram, in a magazine, on a website etc. Well I discovered this hotel just over a year ago before my trip to Mexico. My friend and I had one week to explore Tulum and Isla Mujeres, a perfect amount of time. I was looking to spend one night of luxury, in a beautiful hotel, as we had booked a hostel for the rest of the time to save funds. So I started to look and managed to come across AZULIK.

One word, wow! The moment I saw this hotel I knew I had to book it. It looked truly magical. For one night I paid 856.80 USD which was around 1450 NZD for one night. I know that seems like a hell of a lot to some people but I can honestly say it was worth every penny. From the moment you walk into the hotel its just a wonderful experience. The porter staff welcome you, grab your bags and show you to the reception, then the reception staff welcome you with refreshments and information on checking in. We then had a guided tour by a lovely lady, who showed us all around the stunning hotel. My belly was so full of excitement, I couldn't wait to see our room. Once we had our full tour, she gave us the time of our welcome meeting, told us about the free yoga class in the morning, and informed us that we had a free drink each at sunset, in their amazing restaurant Kin Toh. This restaurant was another major reason I wanted to stay at this hotel. It looked spectacular.

So after my one night stay at AZULIK, I left feeling so relaxed, calm, wondering why I didn't book 10 more nights! Heres my 10 reasons why..

  1. The staff - the staff were so friendly, helpful and welcoming. They made every moment of the experience that whole lot better.

  2. The rooms - we booked a sea view private villa. I walked in and almost cried at how wonderful it was. The room was bright, big glass doors with a view of the ocean, a huge king size, circle shaped bed that looked the comfiest i've ever seen. It was a beautiful open space, the waves were literally crashing just below our balcony, there was a stunning indoor interior mosaic mayan bathtub that I just wanted to jump into. Outside on our balcony, I saw a gorgeous hanging balinese bed, an outdoor mayan tub with a swing above overlooking the ocean, beautiful white lounge chairs to lay on whilst watching the sunrise. It was like a dream.

  3. Kin Toh - the restaurant at the hotel was called Kin Toh, it was the perfect place to watch the sunset. A treehouse restaurant surrounded by nature, everything about this place was magical. The architectural design was out of this world, huge nests floating above the jungle with beautiful white cushions, a big round wooden table, and a view deep into the jungle. It is a once in a lifetime experience that you do not want to miss!

  4. No electric light - imagine being in paradise, the sound of the waves crashing, insects chirping, the jungle surrounding you. Thats exactly what it was like, and without any electric light, candles were the only option. Who doesn't love candles!?!?! This added to the essence of the hotel, the darkness, the nature, nothing but you and your candle lit room. Incredible.

  5. No wifi in the rooms - the last thing you want when you're enjoying a moment in this beautiful hotel is for your phone to start ringing, or the sound of a work email coming through. You want to be fully invested in the nature of the hotel. But don't worry too much, if you have to make that important phone call, there's wifi just outside the rooms. So once you step inside its a totally phone free zone!

  6. Room service - in order to get room service, the system they have is awesome! So you write onto a provided piece of paper, your room number, and your order from the menu, then you put it into a little ball, step outside your room, and there's a shoot that you put the ball into, and you hear it roll away. Then about 15 minutes later you get room service delivered to your door. No phone call, no walking to reception, just a simple, efficient, amazing way to order your food!

  7. Romance - I went with a friend so there was no funny business but I imagine its the perfect place to spend your honeymoon, or a romantic getaway. After spending the night in the treehouse restaurant, Kin Toh, we walked back to our room. We lit all the candles, sat outside on the hanging balinese bed and listened to the waves crashing. The sky was filled with stars, it was so peaceful. A moment I will remember forever.

  8. Private beach - there's access to a beach from the hotel, with big sun loungers and a cute little bar. You get towels on arrival, and the staff check up on you to make sure you have everything you need. What more could you want, right?

  9. The sunrise - the rooms are facing east, therefore if you can manage a 5am wake up, you will see the prettiest sunrise. We left our big glass doors open all night so we could hear the loud sounds of the waves. We set our alarms, waking up in our huge bed, with a view of the sun starting to rise. We decided to go and sit on the balcony loungers with a blanket and just take it all in. Another one of my favourite moments.

  10. The whole experience - I can honestly say, there was not one thing I didn't enjoy about staying at AZULIK. It was truly magical from the moment we arrived up until the moment we left. Its an all round amazing experience. 11/10 rating!

So if you're thinking about going but are kinda on the edge.. BOOK IT! You will not regret it. I will be returning to this magical place one way or another!
