Sometimes you just need to get the girls together, put on a cute dress and go have a picnic somewhere beautiful. As I am trying to build my instagram, I find that a lot of my friends are online buddies. I have so many people I talk to daily but who I've never met in person before. So I thought i'd do something about that!
I hosted a practise picnic with 6 travel based content creators who I have known online for months now, but never met personally. It turned out to be such a wonderful experience that I will be hosting one every 3-6 months moving forward. Here's everything I did to make it special and tips for you if you're thinking of doing one yourself.
First of all I started with the basics.. guest list, the date and the location. I started with only 6 guests as I wanted to make sure everything ran smoothly before doing a bigger one. I would suggest having a few different dates in mind and asking the guests which is best for them. Also with the date, if you're planning to have a set up, platters or anything from a company, make sure they are available too. The location I used (little shoal bay) was absolutely perfect as you are allowed to use the space for picnics and you can even bring alcohol if you wanted to.
Next, I decided I didn't want my guests to pay anything to come but I still wanted it to be extra special. So I contacted the amazing set up company @confettico.nz and organised a collaboration with them. This worked perfectly for us, and them because they were getting a lot of exposure from 7 instagram accounts and we had a beautiful set up. I also contacted 7 local businesses and asked if they would be willing to send out 7 products from their range so I could create a goodie bag for my guests. The products would also be shared across the 7 accounts.
The wonderful people I got on board were as follows..
@foxandivy
@justjesscakeco
@stelmandco
@tourmalineandco
@drbugspopcorn
@covencreationsnz
@anointskincare
I can't thank you all enough for being a part of our special day, all the products were wonderful and the guests loved them!
I created a few platters for the girls so we had a light nibble for the event. This can also be done through collaboration but as I have a grazing business I did this part myself.
It ended up going really well and being a lovely day of chatting, snacking and making friends. The key part in creating this was to be super organised and communicate well with everyone involved. Below are some photos of how it went! Enjoy! (Collaboration tips below photos)
Tips for collaborations-
-Be confident
-Have a clear vision of what you want and display this in your message
-Introduce yourself
-Highlight what they will be getting out of it
-Contact people you have worked with before, if they know how well you work they are more likely to say yes
-Don't let rejection bring you down, not everyone will say yes but you have to keep trying!
-Stay organised, create a list or spreadsheet of the people you have asked and follow up
-Being ignored the first time isn't always a no, follow up follow up follow up!
