Rimu Hut, the hut of dreams!

When you were a child did you ever dream of living freely, in a tiny home, with nothing but nature around you? I did! I've always been so obsessed with treehouses and huts. The idea of having a small space all to yourself, to make into a cozy little home.. a haven. Well, finding Rimu Hut reminded me of this feeling, this longing I had as a child to have a tiny escape from reality.

Located 30 minutes south of Auckland is the most magical hut. We were welcomed by a lovely host named Ken, he showed us around the space and told us about a special activity add on (we will come back to that later). At first glimpse I was completely in awe, it was the most dreamy place with a wonderful rustic vibe. Ken told us how he had originally built this for his grandchildren. I thought that was so great, there's nothing i'd of preferred to do as a child than have sleepovers in the coolest hut! The place had everything you needed for your stay. The decor was amazing, lots of candles, blankets, cushions, a ladder that went up to the coolest bed i've ever seen with a big window overlooking the trees.. Magical! I honestly never wanted to leave.

Our stay was for two nights, we spent the first day playing board games and exploring our surroundings. There was a little walk down to a pond with a boat that you can jump in and have a paddle, this was such a fun way to spend part of our day. Later on we lit heaps of candles, opened a bottle of wine and watched the sun go down from the downstairs window in the hut. We had downloaded a horror movie to watch as there was no reception.. which by the way, I think makes the experience all the more exciting. Who wants to be answering phone calls and texts whilst trying to enjoy a beautiful escape! After our horror movie fright, we climbed the ladder up to the most comfy bed and had a cozy nights sleep. Such a peaceful place.

The second day consisted of taking beautiful photos and content for social media, enjoying the peace and quiet, reading, and listening to the sound of rain on the window. It started raining quite heavily at one point and WOW did it look amazing from the bedroom! Literally one of the most cozy experiences i've ever had, snuggled up all warm watching the rain pour and the trees blow in the wind. Later that night Ken came to pick us up for that add on I mentioned. A GLOW WORM TOUR! Yup you heard me. He picked us up at 8:30 when it was dark, in the coolest little buggy. As it had been raining there were big slippy slopes and banks, but not to worry, the buggy was made for this! We zoomed up and down the banks to the start of the walk. We had little torches to help us see as we trekked through trees and across streams until finally reaching a rest stop with benches. We turned our torches off and it was just indescribable. Hundreds of glowing lights coming from the banks, kinda like stars, the more you looked the more you could see. We sat and chatted with Ken whilst taking in this extremely amazing experience. I had no idea what it would be like but it genuinely blew me away. The perfect way to end our little getaway.

If you're in the north island and you get a chance to go to Rimu Hut, then please do! I can't recommend this place more. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left it was just such a unique, incredible stay. One that everyone should get to experience! (Link below pictures)
