What better way to spend valentines with your loved one than having the weekend at a gorgeous cabin? Marua Retreat is located in Hikurangi, about 30 minutes from Whangarei and has only recently opened. The owners, Leah & Neil have done the most fantastic job on this place, it truly is beautiful!
We arrived at our destination to discover an enchanting hunter green cabin sat peacefully above the rolling hills. The sound of birds, wind and wildlife were the only noise present. As we entered the cabin, I was amazed by the beautiful decor. The kitchen had clear plastic covers so you could gaze into the distance and an open plan on the other side. The wooden, rustic dining table had a large vase full of red and pink flowers. There were eggs in a basket displayed on the kitchen counter, along with more beautiful pink flowers, a white jar full of utensils, and a covered basket with onions and garlic. A gorgeous dark wood cabinet filled with plates and bowls sat against the wall. Then as you entered into the bedroom, another, slightly larger dark wood cabinet stood against the wall. There were two comfy little chairs displayed in the corner of the bedroom, and a massive bed with an old fashioned wooden frame. The other side of the bed was a small window with views that seemed to go on forever, with a seat below. The perfect place to sit and read! Outside of the cabin, a path lead to a beautiful seating area with a garden arch steel gazebo facing the sunset. Then another path leads you to the beautifully detailed bathroom. The shower has a clear wall so you can see into the forest, it feels like you are showering with nature.
We bought a ton of yummy food & snacks for the weekend, sat back and enjoyed the calming vibe of the cabin. On our second day a huge storm hit, only making the experience all the more relaxing. We sat and read our books, listening to the big gusts of wind blowing through the trees. We also enjoyed a competitive game of scrabble that was provided by the hosts, cooked a delicious valentines meal and drank a lot of bubbles. Stuart and I have been to plenty of glamping spots now, but we both agreed this one was one of our all time favourites. The whole vibe from the moment we arrived to the moment we left was just perfect. The wonderful hosts have really thought of everything.
